PRINCIPEThe Consorzio del Prosciutto di San Daniele was set up in 1961 by a group of ham producers who had decided to lay down the "rules of the game" and protect the name of San Daniele ham.
Principe was founded in 1945 by Stefano Dukcevich and his wife Carolina, who left their small village in Slavonia and came to Trieste in search of fortune.
In Trieste, Stefano rented a warehouse where he made luganighe di cragno(typical local sausages) and Praga hams.
The business was increasingly successful, and he was surrounded by a small group of highly-skilled workers who later became a pillar of the local food industry.
On April 8,1970 a new San Daniele factory named Principe started processing its first ham.
The wide range of Principe products is the result of the matching of ancient recipes, state-of-the-art equipment and - above all of high-quality raw material provided by selected and trustworthy suppliers.
